We went to a wood stove, two years ago, buying and research at the Vermont Castings.

If Vermont Castings began, it was the wood stove for Excellence - beautifully constructed. However, about 10 or 20 years or if the company was sold, what really went downhill and manufacturing quality is poor. We could not find anyone to say, do something good about the current herd.

If we have only a hearthstone soapstone wood stove - it was wonderful (I say "was" because they only sold the house). Soapstone heats up slowly, do not get, this intense feeling of his skin-and off-heat gently, thus keeping the wonderfully warm place for an extended period without really intense. Take a look at it, if possible.

We leave this model with the same "traditional" look to create. It seems as good as the day he was born, and is about 10 years. Gorgeous kitchen!

We have a Dutch West made by Vermont Castings. It is a simple, matte black, cast iron pan. I include my Vermont Castings for almost a decade, rust and many fires. With the fan motor, this furnace is the whole house is a hacienda-style heat in 20F weather. It was our only source of heat, cooking and water capacity (from melting ice) during the big ice storm a few years ago. There is still strong, no problems.
